Cops said the long-standing clash between rival gangs from Trumbull Gardens, the city's East Side and Greene Homes flared soon prior to noon Thursday, ideal outside the Ganim for Mayor headquarters on Stratford Avenue.
The shooting, in which a Ganim campaign worker's car was struck, quickly ended up being political fodder.
A surveillance video of the occurrence launched Friday by the Bridgeport Police Department reveals a white Nissan sedan with a sun roofing and missing motorist's side mirror pull up in front of Braxton's Guy's Shop, on the south side of Stratford Avenue.
In the video, a boy dressed in a red hooded sweatshirt steps out of the front passenger door of the Nissan, points a pistol at a passing dark blue rental sedan with New York plates and starts firing.
As soon as the bullets left the gun, the laws of physics took over. Police said some of the shots ended up across the street in the campaign employee's automobile and the building real estate the Ganim group.
Back in June, Ganim opened his own authorities substation outside the Trumbull Gardens housing job, house of one of the gangs. Bridgeport's cops union has supported his candidateship.
Police stated Thursday's shooting had more to do with the ongoing gang-related murder trial in the Main Street court than the presence of Ganim's project headquarters on Stratford Avenue.
But David Daniels III, an ex-cop and independent mayoral competitor, stated he had actually heard the same stories about Thursday's shooting.
Councilwoman Eneida Martinez, who represents the neighborhood and is backing Ganim, stated the shooting is part of an ongoing beef" between youths from the East End and the North End.
The State Elections Enforcement Commission opened an investigation this summer season into claims the project might have created trademarks collected for Ganim to run in the Sept. 16 Democratic main, which he eventually won.
A problem was also submitted with the state about his fundraising, declaring that some factors were fronts for allies who did not want their identities exposed and are offering Ganim more cash than is enabled by law.
